Report: 5th Oral Argument Held on Jan 8, 2026

 In News

On 8 January, the fifth oral argument for the Youth Climate Case was held at Nagoya District Court, where two plaintiffs and the legal team presented their statements. As with the previous four oral argument dates, the courtroom was filled beyond the capacity of 100 people, necessitating a lottery system for the public seating. Following the hearing, a debriefing and networking session took place nearby, where the plaintiffs and legal team explained the day’s proceedings and key points of legal argument.

The recording of the debriefing session is available above. Furthermore, our regularly published Youth Climate Lawsuit Newsletter (in Japanese) will feature a detailed explanation of the fifth court date.

Two plaintiffs gave statements of opinion

At the oral argument, two plaintiffs, Ayako Kawasaki and Daiki Yamamoto, presented their statements to the judges in court. The content of these statements can be read below. They also talked about their statements at the debriefing session, which can be watched here.

The “Documents” page of the website contains the written statements and other materials submitted to the court.
